One Drop of Kindness is Jeff’s first published book. Jeff’s own life became better as he searched for ways to include kindness into everything he does. This book is dedicated to Jeff’s father, Bob, who passed away in 2019.

The author/book takes a child through the ramifications of unkind/kind in a clear and easy to “get” manner. My daughter immediately picked up on the change in color, mood, energy that is portrayed — dark/gray equals a place where no one can muster even one drop of kindness. Color and light represent a place where, once shown, a drop of kindness makes all the difference. It is a lesson I teach my children over and again – -a simple smile or hello or how are you could be enough to change someone’s mood and how powerful is it that a drop of kindness – -a smile – -can truly make a difference in one persons’ life. Kubiak does a fantastic job of getting this message across through powerful words, repeating the phrase about one drop of kindness, and great illustrations.
One Drop of Kindness is such a beautifully written story about the power kindness. Through the main character, Gus, many essential life lessons are illustrated. The story begins with the important message about the danger of judging others without having a full understanding of their background or story. The strength of the human spirit is highlighted by pointing out that regardless of one’s past, you can overcome those challenges and move forward in a positive direction. Most importantly, we learn how even the smallest acts of kindness can inspire and motivate others. I absolutely loved everything about this story. This book is a must read for children and adults alike.
I loved the uplifting and overall message of the importance of spreading kindness. With each turned page, my heart beated faster wanting to know what Gus would do and how would he handle what happened to him earlier in life. The illustrations are amazing and shows an appreciation for diversity. Adults and children who read this gem will see a reflection of themselves on every page and that matters. In addition to the celebration of kindness, the author has poignant questions and activity suggestions which contribute to meaningful conversations, activities, and programs that will positively affect the culture and climate of a classroom and its school. If you want to improve the culture and climate of your school, this book is definitely for you. I have served at every level in education and one of the main things that every student desires is to be excited to go to school everyday. This book shows how one drop of kindness can make that happen. One Drop of Kindness has been added to my favorite book list, and I highly recommend it for students, teachers, and administrators.
As the principal of an early childhood center with preschoolers and kindergartners, I used this book as my November Principal’s Read Aloud, and everyone loved it! We also did a short activity after the read aloud where each class filled in a large blue drop with ways they could show kindness. The drops for all the classes were hung in the lobby on each side of a screen that projected an image of the cover of the book with the quote that repeats throughout the book. I did have to shorten some of the pages and language for our youngest preschoolers, but it was still a huge success!! I would highly recommend this book for all ages!! Even for adults! 🙂
I heard about the book One Drop of Kindness on Twitter in the education chats. After seeing how other educators were so excited about the message, I decided to check it out. I am glad I did! This beautifully written and illustrated book features diverse characters, a strong, positive message, and will fit in easily with the Character program we already have at our school. There are options for discussions and activities so parents and/or teachers can take the message from the pages in the book and apply it to their lives. I can’t wait for the school year to start so I can share this book with my school.
I had been following Jeff on Twitter and when his book came out I had to have it. Little did I know the relationship I would soon develop with Jeff. I met him at the NAESP conference in Spokane and fell in love with his shirt and from there the message of his book really begin to hit home. My family at Rosa Parks Elementary had to have a copy for their classroom. Rosa Parks’ famous quote, “Live your life as a model,” truly is the strong message that comes from Jeff’s book. Everyday we have a choice to spread kindness or negativity! “One Drop of KIndness” inspires you to do better for others, to fill a person’s heart with love! What will you do today to spread kindness in the world to change the lives of others? If it is to be, it is up to ME! Books change lives. One Drop of Kindness is a recipe for a better and kinder world as the story gives hope, inspiration, and a WAY for kids and schools to be a change agents thru making kindness the way we do life. This is a hopeful book during the world pandemic as One Drop of Kindness shows us how kindness is the poweful path towards helping us all feel closer even though we have to remain (for now) 6 feet apart. Kindess is the great connector and is the healthy contagent our world desperately needs.
Wow!!! This children’s picture book is so much more than the beautiful illustrations that are on every page…it’s message about kindness is so POWERFUL!!! It offers such truth to us ALL…kids and adults…students and faculty. It tells the story about how it “truly” only takes one person to show kindness and then a ripple effect begins. So why not “Be the One” to show kindness! I love the way it also says their is kindness in all of us sometimes we just need someone to reveal that to us! I will definitely be reading this book to my students as we begin a new school year and you should too! 💚🖤💛
